COMMUNITIES Loss of history Loss of arable land Ffinancial loss of produce, tourism Damage to private property Loss of tourist accommodation Psychological trauma Road and bridge closures in times of flood		HERITAGE Loss of river heritage (Maori, gold mining) Financial loss of produce, Threat to national icons: Shaky Bridge, old Alexandra bridge piers, Clyde Bridge. Loss of wild scenic beauty of the gorges
	POLLUTION Visual pollution of flood banks. Deposited silt pollutes land Economic loss Amenities loss (swimming pool) Creation of wasteland
